Those great ideas are closer than you think….

August 7th, 2009

Hope everyone is doing well out there, wanted to share a great way to keep and develop ideas.

Writing down those ideas

Writing down those ideas

I was at a wedding last weekend and was speaking with my date about ideas that would help a newlywed during a reception. We ended up thinking of an idea that I loved; thankfully I had my handy dandy moleskin with me to write it down. I wrote it down at the beginning of the reception and kept writing details about the idea during the reception (don’t worry my date was cool with it :-)). This happens to me more often than not and is a good lesson on how to utilize and implement ideas.

Several years ago I read the Magic of Thinking Big. In that book one of the points I took out of it was to always have a way to record ideas. It seems to me that the best ideas occur to me when I least expect them to. That’s why I am a big proponent of creating space in your life to think and ponder. You will probably find as I have when you have free time to think ideas will start flowing because it’s as if your mind works best for ideas when at ease rather than pressure. You can buy a little notebook (my personal favorite) or some people use their phone (palm pre , iphone, etc.) to write down these ideas. Whatever you do just make sure to write them out in detail when you have them and look back at them.

The key is to go back to these ideas are written and expound on them. You will find that most of your ideas aren’t useful but you will find a great idea that you can work with to make money , make a difference, be more efficient, etc. Isn’t one great idea all Microsoft, Apple, Mark Cuban , Henry Ford , Thomas Edison needed?

The idea for chaiwisdom came out of one of these mini-notebooks I carry around….try it for yourself and comment below on how it has helped you.

Family Stories

Family Stories

Did you know that Chicken soup for the soul has 100 million copies in print of their series of books? If you don’t know about Chicken soup for the soul or haven’t read them ; the books are a collection of stories generally about people who overcome obstacles in life. Reading or watching stories like those inspire people to do more than they thought possible. When you read about someone who is in a bad situation but does more than what you or I think is possible it should give us the feeling that we can do anything. If you look at the stories of most major religions (Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity , Islam) you will find stories of inspiration people who did what others thought to be impossible. Stories that inspire have been around since the beginning of time to call people to do more than what they think they can do.

The reason I write this post is because I have realized that I have some inspirational stories closer than I thought. Read the rest of this entry »
